If there’s one thing we can be sure of, it’s that Lincoln High can always be counted on to help others. Today was no exception.

This year, the Red Cross club has given students and staff a number of opportunities to give of themselves – this time literally by giving their own blood. The annual Blood Drive held in the West Gym on Thursday, Sept. 15, saw a flood of Links throughout the day rolling up their sleeves, getting swabbed, and being poked with needles.

This kind of giving isn’t for everyone, but for many it’s a way to do what they can. Junior Sandy Nguyen donated for the first time this year. “I was kind of scared, but it’s not too bad,” Nguyen said.

“We had a great turnout,” Red Cross Club sponsor Richard Jackson said.  “We had more people than we’ve ever had – over 100 people participated.”

Jackson noted that the west gym was an ideal location, because it had great ventilation. “That was  especially good for kids who got sick,” Jackson said. Many were first-time donors, and a few got light-headed.

Jackson also noted a sense of kids “wanting to get involved, especially this time of year.” Links will have another opportunity to donate 2nd semester.
