Freshman Rebecca Vanneman will be the only representative of Lincoln High at this year’s Cross Country State Tournament. Vanneman finished 14th at Districts with a time of 16:28, which was six seconds slower than her best time, to qualify to compete at State in Kearney. “It feels great,” Vanneman said.

She wasn’t sure if she could do it, but she gave it her best.  “There were four top ten teams for the girls there, and it was really hard. It was the hardest race I’ve ever run,” Vanneman said.
She’ll have to practice by herself this week, but she’s very excited. “A couple of my friends get to go with me to state,” she said. “Districts was really tough competition, and state should be even harder.”

The strong wind at Districts took its toll on the other runners. Frank Cuddy, also a freshman, just missed the cutoff (the top 15 places) by coming in 17th.
