Two Lincoln High seniors, Isabel Schneider and Carissa Wei, have been selected as National Merit Scholar Semifinalists. High scores on the PSAT are one requirement for consideration. To become a finalist you have to submit your high school grades and extracurricular and volunteer activities, and an essay about yourself. “I’m really excited about it,” Schneider said. “I’ve already submitted my national merit scholarship finalist application because that was due October 1st, and then Mrs.Saporta has to write a letter of recommendation and things and then we have to take the SATs, so I’m waiting for that,” Schneider said. Over half of all those who become finalist get a scholarship.

Three types of scholarships are given; National Merit $2500 Scholarships, Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards, and Collegesponsored Merit Scholarship awards. Wei would like to get one of those scholarships so she can go to Tufts Boston, Santa Clara in California, or Northwest in Washington. What would she like to study? “Good question,” Wei answered. Schneider would like to major in anthropology or sociology in college and then do something with forensic science or criminal behavioral analysis.
