This year Lincoln High hired 27 new teachers. Some of them have been here before and they love Lincoln High so much that they decided came back again. Others that haven’t been to Lincoln High, heard of how great the school was and they decided to come. I’ve interviewed some of the teachers and all of them said that Lincoln High is a great school, and they love it here. All the teachers love Lincoln High because Most of the students are respectful and every is very polite.
Music teacher Jessica Rajewich- “Out of college, I taught at Everett for three years,” Music teacher Jessica Rajewich said. “Then I went to Culler for a year and taught. After that, I took a year off and went back to college in Omaha to get my masters in Choral Conducting, and now I’m here. I always wanted to teach high school, and I did my student teaching at the high school level, so I was really excited when this job opened up. Also I always wanted to be at Lincoln High. I really like Lincoln High. So far the students have been extremely welcoming, and the staff and the administration have been really great. I am trying to learn a new system, how things are done and everybody’s very patient. The students are really energetic and so I really like it a lot.”
Math Teacher Dana Dyer- “Before I came to Lincoln, I was teaching middle school math at Las Vegas, Nevada,” Math Teacher Dana Dyer said. I chose to come to Lincoln because I really like the town, the atmosphere, and the neighborhood. I choose to teach math because I just love math, I love to teach kids how to problem solve from point A to point B and the steps that goes between. Also I’ve never thought of doing anything else. I like what I’ve seen so far about Lincoln High.”
Science teacher Lacey Pickering- “I taught a year at Southwest, before I came here,” Science teacher Lacey Pickering said. “I love Lincoln High, I did all my student teaching and all my practicum here, and it’s home. I’ve always loved Lincoln High, and when this job came up, I jumped right on super excited to come back. I chose to teach Science because I am terrible at English and I always wanted to be a teacher so I couldn’t be an English teacher. I couldn’t remember that so I couldn’t be a history teacher, but I really like science, and I like how you can get students involved with science.”
Everyone does something outside of school. Some people love to go to the mall, others like to just stay at home and watch T.V. I asked some teachers what they do after school, and I was surprised to find out that they like to do the same things other people do. I thought that teachers just stayed home and worked on hard tests to give to students. When they told me what they did on their free time, I became very interested. Some told me many interesting things that I thought teachers would never do. “I have two dogs and a 3-year old little boy who keep me plenty busy, and I like to read outside of school. I love Lincoln High, it’s perfect and all my students are angels,” Pickering said. “Outside of school, I like to decorate paintings, I like to refinish furniture, and like other girls I like to shop,” Dyer said. “Outside of school, I love to run, and I love James Bond, everything James Bond. Also I watch Husker football. I’m a huge football fan, but especially the Huskers,” Rajewich said. Check out our next issues for more New Teacher Profiles.
