Looking for more LHS school spirit?  Take a look at the Lincoln High Marching Band.  Marching band is all about school spirit, personal boundaries, and performance.  This is also a great way to make a wonderful group of friends.  It is said that marching band should get you PE credits, because of how much physical activity that is being done, so make sure to bring a waterbottle, because it is quite the workout.

To prepare for their show and get down the technique, the marching band works harder than you think.  They spend weeks over the summer in the hot sun all day, and months in the morning cold of the school year, practicing for the very show that they perform at every game and competition during the school year.

There are currently 140 students in the Lincoln High Marching band.  The show for this year is called Morning Rush. They are performing in their show the songs: Asphalt Cocktail by John Mackey, which is a college level piece, as well as 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton, and Uptown Funk.

The marching band’s first contest of the year was on October 1st in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

To raise money for all of the trips and contests and everything else that they do, the students of the LHS marching band do fundraising.  The Links marching competition is also how the marching band makes money to go on trips and do competitions against other schools from all over the United States.  Look forward to bake sales and Marcus Theater fundraisers as well as the Links marching band competition, which took place at Beechner Field on October 8th.

What does the LHS marching band do when they aren’t marching at a game you ask?  Well pep band of course!  Pep band is when the marching band will be in the stands at the game playing some great music to keep the students and players pumped up, to cheer on the players.

So all in all, the Lincoln High marching band is a wonderful and fun environment.  “It is all about doing well while having fun.” says music director, Chris Watson.  So if you are at the game and halftime comes around and you see the marching band going on to the field, think about how hard they work.  Over the summer and during the school year to perform their show for you.  So stay and watch the show, that hot dog can wait.
